oyPod #27: Hello Again and Goodbye

June 15th, 2008

It’s the first new episode in awhile… but it’s going to be the last one until fall. But no worries. Episode 27 is a mega-loaded episode. There’s a kosher meat crisis in America, a Jew-loving Nazi group in Germany, and an Orthodox Idol in Israel. I praise Clay Aiken, and then I bash the SAT. You can learn how to make your very own bagels. Ask Bernie answers a question and I chat with my red-head correspondent Mychal Weitzman. There’s new music from three artists, and I tell you the five things you can do this summer. So as you can see, there’s plenty to listen to.

As a note, something seems to be wrong with my computer or my microphone. There’s a few times when I speak and it skips over what I’m saying. I don’t know what’s happening but that’s not my fault. The stuttering is a different story though.

oyPod #26: How to kill an Amalekite

March 21st, 2008

Episode 26 has been recorded on Purim itself! And while you are thinking about Haman’s death, remember to kill that inner Amalekite. Russians are accusing Jews of killing babies, and Rabbi Lior responds to the yeshiva attacks where eight students were killed. Since it is Purim, there’s some lighter stuff too.  There’s the first kosher restaurant in Kazakhstan, fan mail for the show, and a special Purim song performed by Ask Bernie. Chag sameach!

oyPod #25: Jamie Lynn is as beautiful as the 2-shekel coin

February 10th, 2008

Just another typical episode is episode 25. I talk about new shekels, sushi, inappropriate musicals, priestly persons, ultra-Orthodox censoring, pregnant young actresses, staples, social networking, and Mike Gravel. Plus there’s a schmooze with Mendi Baron, a man of many talents. The simplified version of JewishTeen.net is now up and running, which should convince you to check it out. If this episode doesn’t do much for you, then now is your chance to submit content to the show. Happy Chinese New Year!

oyPod #24: Chanukah (or is it Hanukkah?)

December 11th, 2007

Everyone’s celebrating Chanukah this time of year: at the White House, in Meah Shearim, at the grave of Herzl’s grandson, even in my own bedroom for Episode 24. Ruvy in Jerusalem argues that Chanukah is an important holiday, but I disagree with him. I also extend my complaints in a brand new segment (along with my praises too). In addition we conclude the 3-part story of Joseph and I yell at Soulja Boi. No schmooze today, but there’s three Chanukah songs… including one I wrote and perform myself! Happy Chanukah or Hanukkah or Chanoke or however you may spell it.

oyPod #23: Liquid Latkes and Heavy Metal

November 20th, 2007

Episode 23 is choc full of stuff right in time for Thanksgiving. I talk about holiday-flavored soda, unemployed ultra-Orthodox Jews, and how Jacob was given the name Yisrael. Plus I schmooze with Mendel the Sheichet of the heavy metal band Teihu about music and life. Also I answer the interesting question “Are the Simpsons Jewish?” which is probably the longest segment on my show to date. Enjoy and I hope to see you at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (as I watch on my TV).

oyPod #22: Thanks a lot, Kosha Dillz

October 16th, 2007

Episode 22 was supposed to feature a schmooze with rapper Kosha Dillz, but it’s been trouble trying to get a hold of him after several Skype problems. So we got no schmooze. To compensate though, we’ve got Ask Bernie on the show and one of my friends who decided to call the oyPod voicemail. In the news this month is Simchat Torah drunks, Madonna in Israel, and the start of the ski season. Also… could Christopher Columbus possibly be a member of the tribe? The answer may surprise you.

oyPod zepto 1

September 17th, 2007

Here is the very first oyPod zepto. Do Israeli children surf porn sites? 532 children were polled, and the answers they gave may surprise you. The parshah of the week is V’zot Habrachah.

Like the idea of oyPod zepto? Or does it seem unnecessary? Please send me your feedback.

oyPod #21: Dipped in the Mikvah

September 3rd, 2007

Wow, it feels great to be back in my “studio” after almost 3 months of pure silence. As you’ve been preparing for the new school year, I’ve been revamping the show to further enhance your listening pleasure. In episode 21, we’ve got plenty of news like what’s the deal with Harry Potter in Israel, what’s wrong with kissing mezuzot, and the love between a Reform rabbi and a Protestant minister. After I lay down some street talk, I share my schmooze with Israeli band Zvoov in Groove where we discussed music, flies, and falafel. Also Yom Kippur’s coming up and I’ve heard some people play board games to keep their mind off fasting…. say what? Last I give a few Chai5s to people from Ramah Seminar.

oyPod #20: Something to Ponder About

June 12th, 2007

I had much difficulty making Episode 20 because I think my voice is getting squeakier every time I record. Anyways pretty much every segment in this show makes you want to think. Yes I know school just got out, but this might help you from going brain dead. I talk about how Rabbi Dov Lior doesn’t want to help Darfur refugees in Israel, if Beck is a Jew or non-Jew, how Harry Potter uses themes of the Torah, and why the world would be a different place if we were all equal. It’s not an amazingly great episode but it’s the last one until August, so you should enjoy it while you can.

oyPod #19: Using MySpace Will Give You Leprosy

April 18th, 2007

Well perhaps it won’t give you the disease, but in Episode 19 I share how using the internet is a form of lashon hara, a cause of biblical leprosy, and how NFTY is dealing with it. Since a few days ago was Yom HaShoah, I talk about Holocaust survivals in Israel and, on a similar theme, how Google Earth can inform people about the Darfur crisis. Last I schmooze with Manny M where we discuss rap, Pepsi, and how his shoes are cooler than your mom.

oyPod #18: What? We’re letting Israelis drive a flying car?

April 2nd, 2007

You best believe it; I talk about how a small Israeli company is developing the first flying vehicle. And why else is Episode 18 different from all other episodes? Because I use Uncyclopedia as my source to talk about lotz and lotza matzah. On a more serious note, we also discuss vandalism at a Jewish cemetary, the results of a poll on anti-Semetism, and the “alien” fire of parshat Shemini. Also there’s a Jewish song by a goyish comedy duo. WARNING: This episode is kosher l’Pesach!

oyPod #17: The word "desecration" is used twice

February 20th, 2007

Because of lost headphones, faulty audio programs, and Pirates of the Carribean 2, I was not able to get Episode 17 out until two days after I had hoped. But here it is, and you better enjoy it because it took me forever to get all the sound effects in. If you do enjoy today’s show, you can call me up on the kosher telephone. Or if you didn’t like it, you can use today’s Let’s Talk Slang. Today’s show also includes Ask Bernie and Purim fun facts. Here is a list of all the music played in today’s show: Mishenikhnas Adar Marbim Besimha (Pesah Krishevsky and Elazar Anshin), Esta Noche de Purim (Ester Rofe), Humentashen (Shlock Rock), Latke Hamantashen Debate (Rabbi Joe Black).

oyPod #16: So long, Sadaam

January 1st, 2007

Hopefully some of you will receive Episode 16 before the year ends. Here’s what’s coming to you: Two Israeli teens are injured near Gaza by Palestinian rockets, disputing the ceasefire set a month ago. In other Middle Eastern news, Sadaam Hussein is executed and the world celebrates. I get to do an odd imitation of President Bush. Speaking of odd things, I list 6 zany records that were set this year. Even more, Jeremy Gimbel and his band peforms Kol Yisrael live in the studio (yeah, I wish). Then I continue the discussion on the Conservative movement’s decisions about homosexuality in Judaism. There’s so much more I would have liked to add to this episode, but I only have so much time to find articles and record. The parshah of the week is Vayechi. It’s not mentioned in the show, but you can find a summary of it back in episode 5. Happy new year everyone!

oyPod #15: Not the Thanksgivingdaycast

November 20th, 2006

Paradoxially even though I planned for Episode 15 to be a special Thanksgivingdaycast I forgot to even mention Thanksgiving in it once! Therefore in this message I wish a happy Thanksgiving to everyone, even those outside of the United States that don’t celebrate it. Anyhoo, this episode doesn’t contain too much stuff… speaking of stuff, Esau eats “some of that red stuff” in this week’s parshah Toldot. If that doesn’t fill you up, you can get wasted with Let’s Talk Slang. And speaking of getting wasted, three college guys get wasted in the new movie Borat. Lastly, listen to part two of Schmoozing with Eric Schwartz, where he performs two more songs from his new album. Once again, happy Thanksgiving! (This is a fixed version that removes the one minute silence.)

OyPod #14: The Four Summer Events

October 22nd, 2006

Welcome back to a new year of the amazingly great podcast. Episode 14 was supposed to come more than a month ago, unfortunately it took me forever to get to a Schmooze with Eric Schwartz, which is on this episode. Also included are the 4 great events of the summer: Mel Gibson, the Israeli war, the LA Rally, and Pluto. Speaking of Mel Gibson, I found some Let’s Talk Slang perfect for him. Plus Simchat Torah has ended so now we begin Parshah of the Week all over again. Lastly please visit the all new home of the podcast at JewishTeen.Net and get ready for an exicting year. Although this episode is coming out now, it was written for last week… so don’t be confused by the date at the beginning. WARNING: A rare use of profanity is used in this episode. Please do not let young innocent kids listen to this episode.
